40 years of supporting students at Baker: Spotlight on Thomas and Briaira

Thomas Hughes joined us as a student intern from Princeton University this past June and “had the best summer of my life.”Whether working side by side with our production team (as captured in the adjoining photo, with Thomas in center) or coaching individuals in computer skills, Thomas found impactful opportunities to learn and teach. A computer science major and capable videographer, Thomas prepared training videos to help new hires learn key tasks and conducted video interviews where individuals could share their stories. Both added to a positive program experience. Most inspiring to Thomas was the resilience and generosity shown by participants who face so many hurdles to success. “I am in awe of our Baker participants,” says Thomas, “and I feel blessed to have gotten to spend the summer alongside them.”

Briaira Parker joined us as a student intern from West Chester University in September and is helping us with accounting and administration. At Baker, Briaira is learning the business side of non-profits and the economic drivers of sustainability – all relevant to her finance & economics major. “I like Baker’s mission and culture, which is welcoming and family-oriented,” says Briaira. “Helping people get a new opportunity in life is important.”Working with thoughtful students like Thomas and Briaira brings us new perspectives and gives us confidence for the future!
