Meet our Danielle with volunteers Joanne and Joe Flather. |
We first met Danielle in August of 1999 while she was working in a pre-release prison program at our Philadelphia site. After proving herself as a valuable employee, she was promoted to work as a supervisor at our Malvern site in June of 2000. Danielle was on the 6am train in Center City and in Malvern by 7:30 every day.
Unfortunately in September of 2001, Danielle ran into more trouble and was imprisoned again for a year. She missed the birth of her first granddaughter. However, during that year we continued communication by exchanging letters of encouragement until Danielle was released and returned to work. She started back as a line worker and in a short time worked her way back to a supervisory position. In May of 2003 one of our customers located down the street hired her. CMI Printers loves Danielle and they depend on her completely. She continues to visit us by having breakfast at our Malvern site daily with our other supervisors. On a waiting list for affordable housing in Philadelphia and expecting a raise soon, Danielle is managing her life and doing great! We are so proud of her!

Diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (highest functioning form of autism), Eamon started work at Baker in November of 2000. He quickly learned to handle all the production jobs. In no time we discovered he was a natural at juggling the phone lines and greeting visitors as our receptionist. Everyone enjoyed Eamon and his sunshine personality. Because of his enthusiasm and respect for others, he formed many lasting friendships. In July of 2002, he was hired at Walmart where he continues employment, handling a very demanding and challenging schedule. Eamon attended our 2003 Christmas party and graced our facility with his gentle warmth. Not only are we proud of Eamon's success at Walmart, but also his ability to knit together solid relationships with others.

| Rodney |

(left to right) William (GM), Rodney (Graduate) with Mark (COO). |
Rodney started with Baker in February of 1996 after 18 years of addiction on the streets. Rodney is a quiet man with a huge mechanical aptitude. His attendance was flawless, his attitude excellent and his attention to detail impeccable! Way back in the late 1990's Rodney was on the team that painted the whole Arco fence at Route 3 and 252!
Through the years Rodney was promoted from line supervisor to Asst. Production Manager to Technical Service Manager, then finally to Production Manager. Rodney came in very early every morning to set up all the jobs for the people. He was also the one who could match the best people to the tasks. This year Rodney took a great job working for Jim Campbell (previous Baker Production Manager) at Kalan and Company where he is their mechanic. We miss Rodney sorely and we are proud of him!

Dave (Floor Supervisor), Sandy (Line Supervisor) & Pablo (Graduate) |
Pablo started with us from a work-release prison program in March of 2003. He showed us a real work ethic and willingness to do anything and everything. Pablo demonstrated a kindness with the other employees that was very sweet. First Pablo got a new job in June where the situation was not a good one, meaning that the company either had drug use in it or lots of disrespect. Happily we accepted him back for another month while he found a better position. He works for himself now doing painting and construction. We are so pleased that Pablo is doing well, staying in touch and sticking to all good decisions for his life.

| Rashid |
|

|
Rashid (Graduate) |
Rashid came to Baker in June of 1995 from a pre-release program. This big strong muscle man proved to be a really smart guy as a temp for TransAmerica. Out of the 18 employees that tried to do TransAmerica's complicated work, Rashid was the only one who did really well and hung in there for over 6 months. He commuted daily from North Philadelphia to Great Valley! When TransAmerica moved to Texas, Rashid went back to our Philadelphia location and was soon promoted through the ranks to Production Manager. In May of 1999, Rashid became the truck driver for AKM Trucking. In July of 2000 he married Madalyn, another Baker employee! We are so proud of the role example that Rashid is!

| Luis |

Luis (Graduate) |
Luis started with Baker in March of 2002 while in a work-release prison program. By the end of April his leadership qualities advanced him to a line supervisor position. In another month he took on part time driving and a bit of receiving. Finally in July Luis became our full-time shipper and receiver in addition to working in production whenever necessary. In December 2002 Luis was released from jail and found his own home. During this very critical time, Luis renewed his relationships with his son, married the mother of his son and became a full-fledged, faithful family man. In April of 2003 the parole board approved his moving with his family back to Florida. Luis and his wife Julie recently purchased a new home and they communicate frequently with Baker via email and telephone. We're proud of Luis and will always miss his ke-ke-ke-ke sounds of delight!

| Vince |

Vince (Graduate) |
Vince's story is a bad beginning with a good ending. His youth was without direction. Theft, robbery, drugs, alcohol, county prison marked his downward spiral. The turning point came during an 8 year sentence at Huntingdon State Correctional Institution. There he surrendered his life to the Lord and found a path of redemption.
When he left prison in 1998 all job doors seemed to be closed to someone with his terrible record. Kintock Group, a halfway house, introduced him to Baker Industries, whose work rehabilitation program was the answer for someone with Vince's record.
Vince's energy and total commitment to improve himself was quickly recognized. In short order he moved to the to the position of head quality control inspector, a key post for Baker Industries,
In addition to his day work at Baker Vince took a second job at night to supplement his income and allow him to fulfill his obligation to support his wife and 3 children. He prospered in this job and was promoted to supervisor over a crew of custodial workers for American Building Maintenance. With added income from his night job and encouragement from the staff at Baker Vince was able to give up his job at Baker so that he could spend more time with his family.
Vince exudes an almost evangelical enthusiasm as he talks about the positive part of his experiences. Not many people turn their lives around as completely as he has. As Vince says, the Lord is with him.
