Disability Awareness Night at Citizen’s Bank Park

May 9, 2006

Held in cooperation with Exceptional Parent Magazine, Disability Awareness Nights are conducted at Major League Baseball Parks throughout the country to honor people who have helped to increase awareness about the 54 million people nationwide who have disabilities and other special needs.

Above, Mass-Mutual Philadelphia General Agent Harris Fishman  and Bruce Sham, Special Care Planner, Philadelphia-Fishman Agency, present Weezie and Charlie Baker with the Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award. Weezie and Charlie are the founders of Baker Industries, a Philadelphia- area work rehabilitation program that employs almost 200 special-needs people, who would likely not otherwise find employment. The Bakers’ journey was born out of their determination to create a meaningful life for their handicapped son, Justin. Twenty-five years later, their dream continues to provide working solutions to people in the disabled community.
